When we decided to expand our coverage of Australia, we utilized NAVTEQ field resources from all over the world––nearly 50 geographic analysts participated.

Since all NAVTEQ analysts use the same equipment and processes worldwide, project participants simply brought their laptops and collection equipment to Australia and went to work.

Their job wasn’t simple. They had to build the foundation for a comprehensive, detailed, and reliable map of the country, all from the ground up. That meant traveling the roads and streets for weeks, covering hundreds of thousands of kilometers. Along the way, these NAVTEQ experts not only used our sophisticated collection equipment to ensure each road was correctly positioned, they:

  • Verified street names and addresses
  • Collected road details, including turn restrictions, toll roads and tunnels, speed categories, and more
  • Collected and verified thousands of Points of Interest
Upon completion, the Australia map featured over 1 million kilometers of roads. Much of that map offers our most in-depth coverage; with it, you can travel turn by turn, address to address––finding everything from restaurants to fuel stations along your route––through over 100 towns Down Under.
