Behind the Scenes - Production Close

The data that is the foundation for your NAVTEQ map is built by hundreds of mapping experts in production facilities across the globe. The foundation for their work: information gleaned from a wealth of proven, high-quality sources—everything from paper plots and aerial photos to fresh-from-the-world data provided by our field teams and verified Points of Interest (POI) listings.

Neighborhood by neighborhood, city by city, region by region, these highly trained production personnel comb through the road features and details, speed listings and POI addresses, the highway exits and complex intersections. They verify, adjust, digitize, and aggregate. And when they have questions about a detail of one of the roads you drive, they check to make sure it’s correct.

The geographic analysts in our field offices, the technicians in our facilities in India and North Dakota, and the researchers working in conjunction with call centers are all involved in this dynamic, ongoing process. They’re trained to the same high standards. They work to the same specifications. And they’re always working toward the same goal: to make the NAVTEQ map as accurate, reliable, detailed, and fresh as it can be.
