Behind the Scenes – Toolbox Close
NAVTEQ pioneered the development of digital maps. We continue to lead the industry in creating the next generation of map-building processes and equipment.

Whether they’re working in our production facilities, at any of our hundreds of regional offices worldwide, or on the road in our field-team vehicles, NAVTEQ personnel have the sophisticated tools to build a map that is always fresh, detailed, and reliable.

Today, the NAVTEQ toolbox includes a new version of the exclusive in-vehicle data collection system. Built on a foundation of proprietary software and the innovative use of high-tech hardware, it enables NAVTEQ geographic analysts all over the world to accurately collect the features of the roads you drive.

Our field vehicles also are equipped with video cameras. Usually mounted to view the world through the windshield––a driver’s perspective––these cameras enable NAVTEQ geographic analysts to videotape complex road features. Back in their offices, they use the video to make adjustments and additions to our map.

We frequently encounter areas to map that aren’t accessible by car. Specially equipped PDAs enable our geographic analysts to map on foot. As a result, the NAVTEQ map is as accurate, rich and detailed as we can make it, no matter where you travel.
